Motivational Interviewing Informed Sustainable Livelihoods Practice

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Organizations engaged in poverty reduction operate in a funding climate that make it very difficult to work with vulnerable people in a holistic way. The Sustainable Livelihoods participant engagement model using a Motivational Interviewing approach is a proven, high impact method for working with economically vulnerable adults.

Previous piloting of Sustainable Livelihoods practice has demonstrated that for vulnerable populations, employability is built by first focusing on the conditions, and then on the capacity for participation. Sustainable Livelihoods offers a model for one-to-one coaching that enables front-line staff to engage in powerful conversations using easy to use tools with vulnerable people. This coaching results in greater resilience, self-directed action and progress towards sustainable employment.

Learn about the Sustainable Livelihoods framework by engaging in a process of co-discovery and asset-mapping. Using an exercise that facilitates organizational understanding of the stages of livelihood development and asset building strategies, you will leave with a new way of evaluating and communicating internally and externally about the important work that you do.
