Now is the time for local economies to draw on social innovation approaches as a way to address the complex challenges that face our communities. New approaches such as the Circular and Sharing Economies draw on our past and unlock our future towards a re-engagement in local economic development.

In this workshop, we will explore how to use social innovation techniques such as Design Thinking to bring the power of entrepreneurship and social innovation to make a real dent in our social and economic problems. We will consider how to address issues of scale and policy barriers that often put at risk how solutions are received by our current systems. Drawing on work that Social Innovation Canada is doing to advance innovation thinking to our social problems as people advance what is important in their own communities. We will identify social innovation strategies to understand how local initiatives connect to larger change efforts for long-term sustainable change.
